The Aim of Education
The aim of education is to make us more human through nurturing the body, freeing the mind, and purifying the soul. As to our bodies, the abode of our souls, maintaining its health through proper nutrition and regular exercise is the right that it has on us; as to our minds, the gift that makes us uniquely human, freeing it through discipline and knowledge allows us to use it responsibly in the service of the rest of creation; as to our souls, the divine secret of our lives, purifying it is the ultimate aim of the educative process, and it is the intention with which we are embarking on this journey.
This holistic approach is evident in all our programs through a commitment, in design and execution, to these three aspects:
PhysicalMoving daily using ancient traditional practices: hiking or mindful walking from the Bedouin Tradition, and the martial and medical art of Qigong from the Chinese tradition.
IntellectualReading and discussing almost on a daily basis. Our readings are in English and Arabic, from male and female authors, and include seminal and contemporary works.
SocialLiving with, and learning from, the Bedouins is a defining feature of our programs, and on another side the communal nature of our programs necessitates communal responsibilities.
Summer ProgramWe designed this holistic learning experience for ages 15 -19 to take place in the heart of the mountains of Saint Catherine. We study together different concepts using academic and experiential elements.
